Brief Club History

June, 2007 – The Green Valley Pickleball Club was given club status by GVR. They used the sports court at East Center and had 38 members.


April 30, 2008 – The PB Club began a fundraising drive for new courts. The drive started with a $1,000 donation from Marv Hanenberger.


January 21, 2009 – Courts 2&3 at East Center were opened for play. The Pickleball Club raised $7,100 which they presented to GVR. The cost of the courts was $50,000.


February , 2010 – Beginners clinics offered.


October, 2010 – Pickeball 101 classes offered through the GVR catalogue.


October, 2011 – Courts 1-3 at East Center are resurfaced with a Plexipave surface. This replaced the plastic tile surface.


September, 2012 – Four new courts opened at Canoa Ranch Recreation Center.


March, 2014 – GVPC partners with Quail Creek to hold the Green Valley Senior Games on their recently opened 16 court pickleball complex.


June, 2014 – GVR creates an Outdoor Racquet Sports Taskforce to plan for future growth on pickleball in GVR.


August, 2015 – GVR opens 4 new pickleball courts at East Center

February 2019 – 8 courts with lighting open at East Center

January 28, 2020 – Kent J. Blumenthal Pickleball Center opens with 24 courts

March 18-20, 2022 – Southern Arizona Senior Games held at KJB Pickleball Center

​

December 2022 – Generous Wealth Advisors and GVR Foundation Games hosted at KJB Pickleball Center
